US Government at Meade Senior --
Beginning with the graduating class of 2009, all Maryland high school students are required to both earn one credit of US Government (A & B) and pass the Government High School Assessment (HSA). At Meade Senior, we take the responsibility of preparing students to do both these things very seriously.
Government A is offered in the fall every year, and covers units on the Foundations of Government, the Constitution, the Legislative Branch, and the Executive Branch. Government B is offered in the spring, and covers units on Foreign Policy, Domestic Public Issues, and the Judicial Branch and Supreme Court cases. These courses are also designed to prepare students for the Government HSA.
To ensure student achievement here at Meade, the Government Team offers students access to the Government Academy. Government Academy meets after school on designated Wednesdays and/or Thursdays from 2:10 to 3:20 pm. Students attending Government Academy receive extra help on classwork, homework, writing skills, or review for assessments. There is no charge for Government Academy; it is offered free to students who need the extra help.
Meade Senior is fortunate to have been awarded a grant that allows us to also offer an "Extra Help" bus to a limited number of students each Wednesday and Thursday. This bus is free to students, but has limited seats. Seats are reserved on a first come, first served basis.
